Baseball Recap: Flatirons Academy Drops Season-High Score on Denver Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Flatirons Academy). They were the clear victors by a 33-1 margin over the Denver Academy Mustangs on Thursday. The Bison might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by nine runs or more this season.

Braxton Kelley and Jayden Martinez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Kelley tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Martinez pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Kelley has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Kelley went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one double, while Martinez got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave Martinez a new career-high.

In other batting news, Flatirons Academy got a massive performance out of Parker Wilson, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, two triples, and four RBI. Those two triples gave Wilson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Caleb Doughty, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and four RBI.

Flatirons Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .743. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Flatirons Academy's victory bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Denver Academy, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-4.

Coming up, Flatirons Academy will face off against Simla at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Bison's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cubs have averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season. As for Denver Academy, they will challenge Front Range Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
