Atlantic Shores Christian is 0-6 against Greenbrier Christian Academy since April of 2023 but things could change on Friday. The Seahawks will head out on the road to take on the Gators at 4:30 p.m. Atlantic Shores Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Atlantic Shores Christian will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Hampton Christian Academy on Thursday. The Seahawks were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over the Warriors. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
Alyssa Marraccini made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Those hits were her first of the season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
In other batting news, Skylar Carter was a standout: she fired off three triples, three runs, and one RBI while going 3-for-4. Those three triples gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Genevieve Eichelberger, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Atlantic Shores Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hampton Christian Academy only managed five hits.
Meanwhile, Greenbrier Christian Academy faced Western Branch in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Gators put the hurt on the Bruins with a sharp 8-1 win. The Gators might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by seven runs or more this season.
Haleigh Murphy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Cora Smith was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Bayleigh Kahiler, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple.
The victory (which was Greenbrier Christian Academy's fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Atlantic Shores Christian, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Atlantic Shores Christian's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's contest. The Seahawks have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Greenbrier Christian Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 0.7 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Atlantic Shores Christian continue to outrun the ball?
Atlantic Shores Christian suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to Greenbrier Christian Academy in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Seahawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
