Boyertown has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Whitehall Zephyrs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Boyertown focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Thursday.
Last Thursday, Boyertown came up short against Upper Merion Area and fell 58-45. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Boyertown came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 188th, while Upper Merion Area is ranked 508th).
Boyertown's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jack Greaves, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds, and Trey Kern who scored 14 points along with six rebounds. The contest was Kern's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brant Rath, who scored five points along with nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, the stars were shining brightly for Whitehall in a 41-23 victory over Bethlehem Catholic on Tuesday. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Whitehall has scored all season.
Boyertown has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-3 record this season. As for Whitehall, their victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2.
Boyertown came up short against Whitehall in their previous meeting back in January of 2018, falling 60-52. Can Boyertown avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
