It was a good run, but  Vela unfortunately witnessed the end of their  12-match winning streak on Saturday. They took  a  3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the McAllen Memorial Mustangs. The Sabercats were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mustangs earlier this season, when they won  3-1.
 While Vela ultimately came up short, they really made  McAllen Memorial work, particularly in the fourth set. The final score came out to 25-23, 22-25, 25-21,  27-25.
 When it comes to explaining why Vela lost, don't look at  Fernanda Valdez. Despite the final result, she  had 18  digs and two  assists. Valdez is  on a roll when it comes to  digs, as she's  now  had 13 or more in each of the last four games she's  played.
 Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead McAllen Memorial to victory, but perhaps none more so than   Jozlin Rodriguez, who  had eight  digs and two  aces. What's more,  Rodriguez racked up 19  assists, the most she's  had since back in September. The team also got some help courtesy of  Juliet Trevino, who  had 12  digs and seven assists.
Vela's loss dropped their record down to 30-7. As for McAllen Memorial, they are  on a roll lately: they've  won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 29-8 record  this season.
 We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Vela is set to  take on  their familiar foe McAllen  at 7:00  p.m.  on Tuesday. Meanwhile, McAllen Memorial will  square off against  rival Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial  at 7:00  p.m.  on Tuesday.
