Softball Recap: Saint Viator's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

Fans were treated to a battle of the Lions on Thursday. Saint Viator walked away with a 14-9 win over Harvest Christian Academy. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Saint Viator as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Carley Heiden made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Isabella DiMarco looked comfortable as she tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

Back at the plate, Ava Moreno and Maggie Ratzki did most of the damage at the plate: Moreno went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Ratzki went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Ratzki has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gemma DelBoccio, who went 3-for-4 with six RBI, one run, and one double.

Saint Viator kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 6-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

Saint Viator's record is now 10-20. As for Harvest Christian Academy, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 11-13.

Saint Viator wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 5-3 defeat against Marian Catholic on the 17th. As for Harvest Christian Academy, they have also already played their next match, a 16-6 loss against Timothy Christian on the 16th.
