Basketball Recap: Cannon's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Two

If Statesville wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Cannon, they should've done a better job of containing DJ Rogers. The Cougars blew past the Greyhounds 84-51 on Friday for which the team can thank Rogers, who went 12-for-15 on his way to 27 points. The matchup was his fourth in a row with at least 20 points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Tommy Underwood II, who shot 63% from the field en route to 10 points and four steals. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.

When it comes to explaining why Statesville lost, don't look at Manuel (MJ) Gladden. Despite the final result, he posted 18 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. La'Damien Parker was another key player, putting up eight points and six boards.

The win made it two in a row for Cannon and bumps their season record up to 2-4. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.5 points over those games. As for Statesville, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Coming up, Cannon and Gaston Christian will face off at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest, having both just played. The Cougars will need to watch out since the Eagles have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Statesville, they will face off against North Rowan at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
