Silver Valley hasn't had much luck against Academy of Careers & Exploration recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Trojans will face off against the Eagle at 3:00 p.m.
Silver Valley is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 15th straight game dating back to last season on Thursday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of Lucerne Valley.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Academy of Careers & Exploration). They put the hurt on Lucerne Valley with a sharp 24-2 win two weeks ago. The Eagle might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by eight runs or more this season.
Hannah Hamm was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Academy of Careers & Exploration let Taylor Coffel and Kamie Costa run wild. Coffel got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two triples, and three RBI, while Costa got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave Coffel a new career-high. Laylah Cosek was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Academy of Careers & Exploration kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Academy of Careers & Exploration has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.8 runs over those games. As for Silver Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.
Silver Valley might still be hurting after the 22-2 loss they got from Academy of Careers & Exploration in their previous meeting on April 8th. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
