Baseball Recap: Broughton Gets the Win

Broughton proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by six) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 12-11 victory over the Knightdale Knights. The win continues a trend for the Capitals in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won four in a row.

Broughton saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Hawkins, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple. Those four hits gave Hawkins a new career-high. Odniel Perez also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Broughton's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-2. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 8.67 hits in those games compared to only 5.25 in the others. As for Knightdale, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-4.

Looking ahead, Broughton will head out on the road to face off against Millbrook at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Millbrook's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Broughton's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Knightdale, they will host Sanderson at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Knightdale is facing Sanderson at the right time seeing as Sanderson is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
