Diablo Valley recap October 1, 2013
Fans got a thrill when Gabe Taylor and Ben Davis connected against Skyline. The connection went for 67 yards, the longest such play in Diablo Valley this season.
Concord moved up to 254 from 341 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Minutemen were able to move up by besting Heritage 30-18.
Austin Hunt was a passing and rushing force as Mt. Diablo lost to Mt. Eden. He completed 13 passes for 222 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 62 yards. Hunt's key target this week was Davail Jenkins, who caught 5 passes for 137 yards.
MITCH DANIELS threw for 205 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 20-40 with 1 interception.
Michael Dukes was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 153 yards on 17 carries as the Red Devils fell to the Monarchs. Teammate Hunt added to the ground attack by rushing for 62 yards.
Leading Diablo Valley in both passing and receiving yards, Concord's DANIELS and MASON KNIGHT have proven to be a lethal combination. DANIELS has thrown for 1,051 yards this season, while KNIGHT, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 37 catches for 454 yards. Miles Harrison from Clayton Valley Charter leads the league in rushing with 574 yards.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Northgate beat Antioch 45-8. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
