The Owensboro Catholic Aces are taking a road trip to challenge the Bowling Green Purples at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Owensboro Catholic's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Bowling Green's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
While Owensboro Catholic's victory against Owensboro wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Aces skirted past the Red Devils 5-3. Winning may never get old, but the Aces sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
The team relied heavily on Jake Murphy, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Tucker Evans was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Bowling Green never got on the board in their matchup on Saturday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Glasgow on Tuesday. They blew past the Scotties 14-3. The Purples haven't had any issues with the Scotties recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Eli Kries looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched.
At the plate, Grayson Newman was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Luke Idlett also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.
Bowling Green always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Glasgow only posted an OBP of .333.
Owensboro Catholic pushed their record up to 10-6 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Bowling Green, their record is now 9-5.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Owensboro Catholic has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .431. However, it's not like Bowling Green struggles in that department as they've averaged .434. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Owensboro Catholic came out on top in a nail-biter against Bowling Green in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Aces since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
