Basketball Recap: Madisonville Drops Season-High Score on Center

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Madisonville). They took down the Center Roughriders 68-53 on Tuesday. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 397th, while the Roughriders are ranked 882nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Madisonville to victory were Ke'Miya Dunn and Khia Byrd. Dunn went 7 of 17 on her way to 19 points in addition to five rebounds and three blocks, while Byrd posted 14 points along with eight boards and six steals. The dominant performance gave Byrd a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoriah Whaley, who put up seven points and three steals.

Madisonville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Madisonville has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.4 points per game. As for Center, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-12.

Madisonville will square off against Rusk at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Madisonville has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Center, they will challenge Bullard at 6:15 p.m. on Friday.
