Basketball Recap: Merit Preparatory Academy Piles Up the Points Against Mount Vernon

Merit Preparatory Academy made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Mount Vernon, but still couldn't quite topple them. The Merit Preparatory Academy Knights simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Mount Vernon Patriots 91-23. That 68 point margin sets a new team best for the Knights this season.

Merit Preparatory Academy had a senior duo take command as Ayden Martinez almost dropped a double-double on 28 points and nine rebounds and Cruz Steinman went 11 of 16 on his way to 25 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Martinez has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Miles Petersen, who posted six points along with eight steals and five assists.

Merit Preparatory Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mount Vernon only posted three assists.

With the win, Merit Preparatory Academy broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-3. As for Mount Vernon, they dropped their record down to 0-5 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Merit Preparatory Academy will take on Green River in a tournament on Thursday. As for Mount Vernon, they will welcome Intermountain Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
