The Mendon Hornets struggled with offensive rebounds on Monday (the Quincy Orioles had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Mendon took a 56-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Quincy. Mendon has not had much luck with Quincy recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Mendon saw an underclassman step up: Quincy Blair scored 17 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Ryder Gorham, who scored six points along with nine assists.
Quincy was led to victory by Ryan Kempter and Grant Carter. Kempter scored 11 points along with five assists, while Carter scored 19 points along with six rebounds. Kempter continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Clayton Benson was another key contributor, scoring five points along with five rebounds.
Mendon has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Quincy, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.
Mendon will be playing in front of their home fans against Burr Oak at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Quincy, they will head out on the road to challenge Maple Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Maple Valley is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home.
