Russell will look to defend their home turf on Friday against West Carter at 7:00 PM. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Their game two weeks ago wasn't at all kind to Russell, but their most recent matchup may have softened the blow. They took the game and then some with a 49-0 win last week over Boyd County. The win was a breath of fresh air for Russell as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Meanwhile, West Carter made easy work of Nicholas County and carried off a 35-14 victory. West Carter were expected to win, but the margin was definitely larger than the state rankings had forecast.
Their wins bumped West Carter to 2-2 and Russell to 2-3. Given their high-scoring efforts against their previous opponents, it will be interesting to see how far up these teams can run up the score.
