The McKeel Academy Wildcats came tearing into Monday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They secured a 62-56 W over Haines City. Given McKeel Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 211th, while Haines City is ranked 586th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Alex Sessoms was his usual excellent self, scoring 18 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamal Whyte, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Despite the loss, Haines City still got an impressive performance from Jorge Ramirez, who scored 21 points. Ramirez continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ixion Toro, who scored five points along with three blocks.
McKeel Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. As for Haines City, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 4-14.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. McKeel Academy will challenge Sebring at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Sebring focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine last Saturday. As for Haines City, they will head out on the road to take on Avon Park at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Avon Park's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three contests.
