Alden-Hebron hasn't had much luck against South Beloit recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Green Giants will be playing in front of their home fans against the Sobos at 4:30 p.m. The contest will give Alden-Hebron their first taste of in-conference action this season.
Alden-Hebron is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their tenth straight game dating back to last season on Thursday. They took a 16-12 hit to the loss column at the hands of Christian Liberty. Even if the Green Giants couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Hayden Smith and Madison Mayerck stepped up to the plate in a big way. Smith went 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Mayerck scored four runs while going 4-for-5. Brooke Slepcevich was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, South Beloit waltzed into their game on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 9-8 W against the Raiders. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Sobos have posted since April 8, 2024.
Whitney Schnack made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Annabelle Dascher and Macey Lineman did most of the damage at the plate: Dascher scored two runs while going 3-for-4, while Lineman scored two runs while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Lineman a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Taniyah Crawford, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
South Beloit kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Alden-Hebron's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for South Beloit, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
