Centennial is a perfect 10-0 against Cleburne since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. Centennial will head out to face off against Cleburne at 1:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Centennial had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Mansfield Timberview on Friday. Centennial's pitcher stepped up to hand Mansfield Timberview a 15-0 shutout. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by six runs or more this season.
Alyssa Mayner made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in February. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.
In other batting news, Centennial got a massive performance out of Cheyenne Bruner, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Bruner a new career-high in doubles (two). Ryanne Stephens was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Centennial kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 11 consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Cleburne entered their tilt with Seguin on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 11-4 victory. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since March 31, 2023, but that streak is no more.
Like Centennial, Cleburne also got a great game from a two-way player: Faith Evans. She tossed 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off eight hits. Evans has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
In other batting news, Cleburne let Kadenze Quzma and Madison Glover run wild. Quzma scored two runs while going 3-for-5, while Glover scored two runs while going 4-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaycie Jones, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.
Centennial's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-6. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Cleburne, their record now sits at 7-12-2.
Cleburne's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Centennial has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Cleburne, though, as they've been averaging 9.2 hits. Given Centennial's sizable advantage in that area, Cleburne will need to find a way to close that gap.
Centennial took their win against Cleburne when the teams last played back in February by a conclusive 12-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Centennial since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
