The Kerr-Vance Academy Spartans will challenge the Oxford Prep Griffins at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Kerr-Vance Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Cape Fear Christian Academy 12-2 last Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Spartans considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Thomas Wilson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, MJ Wright was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Nathan McDaniel was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Kerr-Vance Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Oxford Prep came tearing into Wednesday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Firebirds. Seven seems to be a good number for the Griffins as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Jayce Elliott made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Elliott was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hunter Woodlief, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Gaige Riddle, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Oxford Prep pushed their record up to 10-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Kerr-Vance Academy, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-7.
Kerr-Vance Academy might still be hurting after the 13-2 loss they got from Oxford Prep when the teams last played back in February. Will the Spartans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
