Calhoun is 1-8 against Routt Catholic since May of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Warriors will head out on the road to square off against the Rockets at 4:30 p.m. Calhoun is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
On Tuesday, Calhoun needed a bit of extra time to put away Pittsfield. They had just enough and edged out the Saukees 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Warriors have posted against the Saukees since March 31, 2018.
Jacob Snyders tossed a big game, tossing 7.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits.
On the hitting side, Jack Zipprich was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Toppmeyer, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Routt Catholic fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Brown County on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 7-3 to the Hornets. The matchup marked the Rockets' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Brady Turner was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.
In other batting news, Eli Olson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Talon Thompson was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.
Having lost for the first time this season, Routt Catholic fell to 7-1. As for Calhoun, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-0.
Calhoun couldn't quite get it done against Routt Catholic in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 4-1. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
