Northside is 1-9 against the Mustangs since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Northside Indians will be playing at home against the Benjamin Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Northside has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while the Mustangs will arrive with 15 straight victories.
Two weeks ago, Northside took a serious blow against the Wildcats, falling 66-22.
In what's become a running theme this season, Benjamin gave their fans yet another huge win on Saturday. They blew past Crowell 87-67. Given Benjamin's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 366th, while the Wildcats are ranked 1057th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Grayson Rigdon, who dropped a triple-double on 49 points, ten rebounds, and 12 steals. That makes it 14 consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Benjamin's points. Another player making a difference was Keegan Hayes, who dropped a triple-double on 12 points, ten rebounds, and ten assists.
Northside dropped their record down to 2-12 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.0 points per game. As for Benjamin, their win bumped their record up to 15-0.
Northside took a serious blow against the Mustangs in their previous meeting back in January, falling 102-19. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Rigdon, who shot 5-for-7 from long range and dropped a double-double on 50 points and 13 rebounds. Now that Northside knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
