Softball Recap: Peninsula Catholic Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Peninsula Catholic had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They walked away with a 10-7 victory over the Atlantic Shores Christian Seahawks. This was a revenge game for the Knights: when they faced off against the Seahawks last Thursday, they had to take a 9-8 loss.

Alyssa Casey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava O'Shaughnessy-Tong, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Addison Dent was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Peninsula Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Atlantic Shores Christian only posted an OBP of .406.

Peninsula Catholic pushed their record up to 8-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Atlantic Shores Christian, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Looking ahead, Peninsula Catholic will challenge Isle of Wight Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Atlantic Shores Christian, they will take on Norfolk Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
