The Sullivan Redskins will take on the Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Knights in a tournament on Saturday. Sullivan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
Sullivan barely beat Blue Ridge the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Redskins were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Knights on Tuesday. The win was familiar territory for the Redskins, who have now won three matches in a row.
Natalie Stinson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Sullivan let J'Nai Webb and Karson Robinson run wild. Webb went 3-for-5 with one home run and four RBI, while Robinson went 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits Robinson has posted since back in April. Nevaeh Dovell also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Sullivan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond scored first but ultimately less than Central A & M in their game on Thursday. They came up short against the Raiders, falling 15-5.
Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was SOPHIA MONTS, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two doubles. Another was ANNABELLE VANAUSDOLL, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Sullivan pushed their record up to 17-10 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-14.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Sullivan hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Sullivan came out on top in a nail-biter against Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond when the teams last played back in April, sneaking past 13-12. Do the Redskins have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
