After flying high against South Brunswick two weeks ago, New Hanover came back down to earth. The New Hanover Wildcats took a 64-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Topsail Pirates on Tuesday. The Wildcats' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
New Hanover's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brianna Stanley, who posted 18 points and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Zirhe Sellers, who had eight points and ten rebounds.
Topsail got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Riley Trimble out in front who went 7 of 11 en route to 15 points along with six boards and five assists. Those five assists gave Trimble a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ryan Lambert, who went 7 for 16 on her way to 14 points in addition to four steals and four blocks.
New Hanover's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 11-5. As for Topsail, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-5.
