Division IV recap Sept. 26, 2012
Marquis Harper, Jr. and James Alves-Southern provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Central Falls. The longest such play in Division IV this season, the connection resulted in 90 yards.
Mt. Pleasant came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 29 last week.
Brandon Canuto put up the best numbers through the air as the Warriors defeated Providence Country Day/Wheeler/Sanchez Complex. He finished with 15 completions for 228 yards and five touchdowns. Canuto's favorite target this week was Roberto Cardoso, who caught three passes for 67 yards.
Alves-Southern was the best wideout in the league this week as the Knights lost to Central Falls. Alves-Southern racked up five receptions for 190 yards. Spenser Weiner helped Providence Country Day/Wheeler/Sanchez Complex's passing attack out by catching four balls for 47 yards.
Harper, Jr. was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 20 carries, he ran for 154 yards as Providence Country Day/Wheeler/Sanchez Complex lost to Maurice Jackson's team. Tyrone Clarke also contributed to the rushing game with 73 yards on the ground.
Providence Country Day/Wheeler/Sanchez Complex's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Knights feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Harper, Jr. has thrown for 529 yards and five touchdowns this season, while Alves-Southern has 13 catches for 414 yards. Harper, Jr. also leads the league in rushing with 448 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between North Providence and North Smithfield. The Cougars enters the game ranked 20th in the state, while the Northmen ranks 19th.
The Kilties were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in the league.
