Chowchilla has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Liberty Hawks at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Chowchilla has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last five games.
Chowchilla pushed their score all the way to 69 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 77-69 to Sierra. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Chowchilla in their matchups with Sierra: they've now lost six in a row.
Despite their defeat, Chowchilla saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Ryan Deatherage, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds and two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Zayne Smith was another key contributor, scoring 22 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Liberty lost to Coalinga on the road by a decisive 65-47 margin on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Liberty can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1210th, while Coalinga is ranked 583rd).
Chowchilla's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-9. As for Liberty, their loss dropped their record down to 6-12.
Chowchilla was able to grind out a solid win over Liberty in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, winning 64-57. Will Chowchilla repeat their success, or does Liberty have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
