Softball Recap: Albuquerque Academy Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

Albuquerque Academy waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over the Rio Grande Ravens. Considering the Chargers have won eight contests by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Melissa Purcella made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI and two runs.

In other batting news, Albuquerque Academy got a big performance out of Samantha Walker, who went 2-for-5 with three runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Bella Swanson, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Albuquerque Academy's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-9. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs over those games. As for Rio Grande, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-14.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Albuquerque Academy beat the Ravens by a score of 15-13 later that day.
