Softball Recap: Canton Gets the Win

Canton came out on top against Brownsboro on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fifth inning. The Eagles skirted past the Bears 10-9. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 12-2 on March 3rd.

Rylee Busby made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, Canton got a massive performance out of Alexis Baier, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Baier has posted since back in February. Arianna Whitlock was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Canton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Brownsboro only posted a batting average of .206.

Canton has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-12 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Brownsboro, they now have a losing record of 8-9.

Canton and Brownsboro could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Eagles (ranked 400th) will meet Van (ranked 90th) at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Brownsboro will square off against Lindale at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (584 vs. 95).
