Birdville hasn't had much luck against Ryan recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Hawks will be playing in front of their home fans against the Raiders at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Thursday, Birdville earned a 38-26 victory over Fossil Ridge. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Hawks' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 268th, while the Panthers are ranked 562nd).
Birdville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Zach Wells, who threw for 245 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.9% of his passes, and also rushed for 35 yards and one TD. Wells' passing game has become a key predictor of the Hawks' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 1-4 otherwise. Birdville's leading receiver Braylin Montoya was Wells' top target yet again, picking up 118 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Birdville didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Tylan Carr, Jacob Martinez, and Jamal Ramsey picked up one apiece. Martinez has been hot for a while, having also posted five or more total tackles the last 16 times he's played.
Meanwhile, Ryan entered their tilt with Brewer on Thursday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Bears 41-7. Considering the Raiders have won five matchups by more than 23 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Birdville better keep an eye on Quin Henigan. He was instrumental in Ryan's win, rushing for 36 yards and three touchdowns, while also throwing for 187 yards on 13 of 20 attempts. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Henigan a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Rontavian Brown, who rushed for 79 yards and one TD on only 11 carries.
Birdville now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Ryan, their win bumped their record up to 8-1.
Birdville was dealt a bruising 56-14 loss at the hands of Ryan when the teams last played back in November of 2024. Thankfully for the Hawks, Nehemiah Warmate (who rushed for 138 yards and one score on only 11 carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
