Softball Recap: Rio Hondo Prep Snags Ninth Win in Last Ten Games

Rio Hondo Prep had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Chadwick on Thursday. The Kares put the hurt on the Dolphins with a sharp 8-1 win. The Kares might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six runs or more this season.

RYEN COVEY and ALLIE SCOTT made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, COVEY pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, SCOTT kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. COVEY has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. At bat, COVEY got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one run and one RBI, while SCOTT got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave SCOTT a new career-high.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was TARA RILEY, who went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

Rio Hondo Prep has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Chadwick, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-11.
