The StoneBridge Cavaliers will head out on the road to square off against the Hampton Christian Academy Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams have allowed few points on average, (StoneBridge: 22.5, Hampton Christian Academy: 25.7) so any points scored will be well earned.
A well-balanced attack led StoneBridge over Gateway Christian in every quarter on their way to victory on Thursday. StoneBridge strolled past Gateway Christian with points to spare, taking the game 27-8.
StoneBridge's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mikaylah Telfer, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and six steals. Telfer hasn't dropped below three steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Sarah Busby, who scored four points along with seven steals.
Meanwhile, Hampton Christian Academy put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 47-35 win over Denbigh Baptist Christian. Given Hampton Christian Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while Denbigh Baptist Christian is ranked 294th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hampton Christian Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ally Rodenberg, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. It was the first time this season that Rodenberg pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Mahdy Sigler, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 rebounds.
StoneBridge's victory bumped their record up to 12-6. As for Hampton Christian Academy, their win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-0.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: StoneBridge have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 25.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Hampton Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
StoneBridge came up short against Hampton Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in January, falling 36-26. Can StoneBridge avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
