The Economedes Jaguars lost against the Hanna Golden Eagles back in December of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Economedes might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Hanna an easy 61-39 victory. While losing is never fun, Economedes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1210th, while Hanna is ranked 569th).
When it comes to explaining why Economedes lost, one person who can't be blamed is Nathaniel De La Garza. Despite the final result, he scored 21 points along with three steals. De La Garza scored a full 53.8% of Economedes' points, the tenth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Gomez, who scored three points.
Economedes has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-9 record this season. As for Hanna, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Economedes will be home for the holidays to greet San Perlita at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hanna will be home for the holidays to greet Juarez-Lincoln at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Juarez-Lincoln has now lost 11 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 18.
