The Wisner-Pilger Gators will head out on the road to face off against the Lyons-Decatur Northeast Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wisner-Pilger is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak.
Last Friday, Wisner-Pilger came up short against the Mustangs and fell 51-43.
Despite their loss, Wisner-Pilger saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Nevaeh Brown, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Brown has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times she's played. Emerson Bellar was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Lyons-Decatur Northeast, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 58-41 loss to the Titans on Tuesday.
Despite the defeat, Lyons-Decatur Northeast had strong showings from Tavyanna Parker, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and six blocks, and Aubrey Andersen, who scored eight points.
Wisner-Pilger has not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Lyons-Decatur Northeast, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-14.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Wisner-Pilger have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Lyons-Decatur Northeast struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Wisner-Pilger against the Cougars in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 69-26 victory. With Wisner-Pilger ahead 47-18 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
