Blackfoot has gone a perfect 10-0 against Hillcrest recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Broncos will be playing at home against the Knights at 4:00 p.m. Blackfoot will be strutting in after a win while Hillcrest will be coming in after a loss.
While Blackfoot's victory against Idaho Falls wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Broncos had just enough and edged out the Tigers 11-9. The win continues a trend for the Broncos in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won five in a row.
Conner Cannon was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two triples, four RBI, and one run. Those two triples gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jagger Wren, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Hillcrest's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They fell 13-8 to Thunder Ridge.
Andrew Johnson was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Cole Croft made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Thomas Smith was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Blackfoot's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 8-5. As for Hillcrest, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.
Blackfoot took their win against Hillcrest in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 10-1 score. Will the Broncos repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
