Tucumcari has gone a perfect 3-0 against Melrose recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Rattlers will face off against the Buffaloes at 3:00 p.m. Tucumcari will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Tucumcari barely beat Estancia the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Rattlers were the clear victors by a 27-6 margin over the Bears on Tuesday. The Rattlers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

The team relied heavily on Matt Gomez, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. He also got three hits, which is notable because Tucumcari is 2-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 1-2 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jadon Navarro, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two RBI.
Tucumcari kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Melrose came up short against Eunice on Monday, falling 18-11.
Jaxon Odom made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-4. Those home runs marked the first that he launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Roybal, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Melrose now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Tucumcari, their victory ended a ten-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-3.
Melrose's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Tucumcari has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Melrose, though, as they've been averaging 10.3 hits. Given Tucumcari's sizable advantage in that area, the Buffaloes will need to find a way to close that gap.
Tucumcari took their win against Melrose in their previous matchup back in March of 2019 by a conclusive 17-3 score. Do the Rattlers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Buffaloes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
