It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Clearwater Central Catholic had no problem doing just that on Friday. They secured a 45-41 W over the Patriots.
Jershaun Newton was his usual excellent self, rushing for 164 yards and two touchdowns, while also throwing for 295 yards and a touchdown while picking up 12.8 yards per attempt. Caleb Goodloe was another key contributor, picking up 159 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Clearwater Central Catholic's defensive line stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Newton was especially locked on to Carrollwood Day's QB and sacked him twice.
Meanwhile, Trinity Christian Academy stacked a fifth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They really took it to Orlando Christian Prep for the full four quarters, racking up a 48-20 win at home. With Trinity Christian Academy ahead 28-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Trinity Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cameron Anderson led the charge by rushing for 157 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries. Anderson's longest rush was for an incredible 81 yards. Another player making a difference was Darnell Rogers, who rushed for 134 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries.
Clearwater Central Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 12-0. As for Trinity Christian Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.
