The Villa Grove Blue Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Cumberland Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Last Friday, things could have been worse for Villa Grove, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 63-47 loss to Arcola. Villa Grove has not had much luck with Arcola recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Meanwhile, Cumberland scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They blew past Unity Christian 70-38 on the road. The victory was some much needed relief for Cumberland as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Kelby Bierman was a one-man wrecking crew for Cumberland as he scored 21 points along with seven assists and five steals. Bierman has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zack Harmon, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Villa Grove's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-12. Cumberland's record is now 10-18.
Villa Grove came up short against Cumberland in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, falling 44-35. Thankfully for Villa Grove, Gavin Hendrix (who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 13 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
