Stanton extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping them down to 14-11. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Compass Academy Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-2 back in March.
Stanton saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Braydn Garcia, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Zekeriah (Zach) Trevino also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
As for Compass Academy, they pushed their record up to 25-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games.
On Compass Academy's side, KEEGAN WALKER tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. What's more, WALKER posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February.
At the plate, Compass Academy got a big performance out of KAISON BIVINS, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. BIVINS is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was GAVIN CRANFILL, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Stanton is set to challenge their familiar foe Crane at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Compass Academy will square off against rival Coahoma at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
