Buckingham is 9-1 against Nottoway since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Knights will venture away from home to take on the Cougars at 5:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Nottoway will be up against a hot Buckingham squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Knights put the hurt on Randolph-Henry with a sharp 14-4 victory on Monday.
Avery Schaeffer made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). Schaeffer was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, Ethan Walter was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Trey Jones was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Buckingham kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Nottoway, who bounced back after a loss on the road back in March. Everything went their way against Cumberland on Thursday as they made off with a 12-5 win. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Like Buckingham, Nottoway also got a great game from a two-way player: Trent Hayes. He pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Hayes was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bradley Hamilton, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Jadarrian Hendricks, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4.
Nottoway's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-6. As for Buckingham, their record is now 3-0.
Nottoway's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Buckingham has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .468. It's a different story for Nottoway, though, as they've only averaged .343. Will they be able to contain Buckingham's hitters?
Buckingham took their win against Nottoway in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 16-3 score. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
