If the Taylor County Bulldogs were riding high off their 54-28 takedown of the Jefferson County Tigers last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Taylor County took a 40-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Indians. Taylor County was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2020.
Taylor County's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was LeeAsia Johnson, who scored 16 points. That was a full 47.1% of Taylor County's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kourtney Jackson, who scored nine points.
Chiefland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brianna Bell led the charge by scoring 13 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Bell is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least four every time she's taken the court this season. Nyasia Bivins was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with six rebounds.
Taylor County's defeat dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Chiefland, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-12 record this season.
Taylor County's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Buccaneers on February 5th. As for Chiefland, they will face off against the Bears at TBD on Monday. Dixie County's defense has only allowed 28.7 points per game this season, so the Indians' offense will have their work cut out for them.
