Southern Wells hasn't had much luck against Woodlan recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Raiders will square off against the Warriors at 5:30 p.m. Southern Wells is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Southern Wells' last matchup with Jay County could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's game on Tuesday. The Raiders came up short against the Patriots, falling 10-4. The Raiders just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.
Rugar Holmes made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
Woodlan not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 27th (when they won 19-1). They put the hurt on South Adams with a sharp 12-3 victory.
Jordan Halsey made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two runs. Woodlan is undefeated when Halsey posts two or more runs, but 4-13 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Drew Fleek, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and two triples. He continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Oliver Adams, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Woodlan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive matches.
Woodlan's record now sits at 9-13. As for Southern Wells, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Southern Wells has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Woodlan struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Southern Wells came up short against Woodlan when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 6-2. Can the Raiders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
