Baseball Game Preview: Woodside Wolverines vs. Heritage Hurricanes

For the second straight game, Woodside will face off against Heritage. The Wolverines will be playing at home against the Hurricanes at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Woodside has given up an average of 8.4 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Woodside is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Heritage with a sharp 24-13 victory on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Wolverines considering their one-run performance the match before.

Cameron Moody made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Woodside is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 1-3 otherwise. Moody was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Connor Castillo was a standout: he scored two runs while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Woodside's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-4 when he doesn't). Shaquan Patrick was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.

Woodside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .745. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Woodside's win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Heritage, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Woodside has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Heritage struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
