Layton Christian Academy has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against The South Summit Wildcats at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Layton Christian Academy got themselves on the board against Providence Hall, but Providence Hall never followed suit. They blew past the Patriots 51-0 at home. The match was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Layton Christian Academy had established a 44 point advantage.
It was another big night for Trevor Halalilo, who rushed for 181 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.2 yards per carry. Halalilo is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. Marcus Miles was another key contributor, rushing for 50 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, South Summit entered their tilt with Delta with seven consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with eight. South Summit took their match at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 48-7 victory over Delta. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 27-0.
Trey Stembridge and Bracken Lassche were among the main playmakers for South Summit as the former rushed for 82 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries and the latter threw for 208 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes.
Another reason for the win was South Summit's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. Delta's QB won't forget Noah Gunnerson anytime soon given Gunnerson sacked him six times.
Layton Christian Academy's victory was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 49.0 points per game. As for South Summit, their win bumped their record up to 9-2.
Layton Christian Academy came up short against South Summit in their previous meeting back in September, falling 28-21. Can Layton Christian Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
