The Hopewell Blue Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Mecklenburg County Phoenix at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopewell knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six contests -- so hopefully Mecklenburg County likes a good challenge.
Hopewell has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 30 points or more this season. They blew past Matoaca, posting a 75-37 victory on the road.
Hopewell's win on Thursday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Erin Edmonds, who dropped a double-double on 35 points and ten steals. The matchup was Edmonds' sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of April Winfield, who scored 28 points along with five assists and five steals.
Meanwhile, Mecklenburg County unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 49-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Halifax County. Mecklenburg County has not had much luck with Halifax County recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Hopewell's win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. As for Mecklenburg County, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
Everything came up roses for Hopewell against Mecklenburg County when the teams last played back in November as the team secured a 76-26 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hopewell since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
