One of the nation's top offensive lineman is the newest member of the South Carolina Gamecocks' 2011 recruiting class.
Goose Creek (S.C.) standout
Brandon Shell committed to South Carolina yesterday, according to numerous reports.
The 6-foot-7, 290-pound Shell is the nation's No. 6 overall recruit according to Tom Lemming. He's the No. 2 offensive lineman, behind only
Cyrus Kouandjio.
Shell had a plethora offers, but selected South Carolina over Clemson and Alabama.
"I was ready to make a decision, and once I was ready, I didn't want to put it off any longer," Shell told Charleston's
Post and Courier. "South Carolina is a place I fit in. It's like family. I get along with all the players and coaches."
Goose Creek is 10-0, thanks in large part to Shell, who has been dominant at the tackle position. He joins a recruiting class that recently gained pledges from athlete
Damiere Byrd and running back
Shon Carson.
Steve Spurrier's class could continue to rise up the team recruiting rankings if it lands a commitment from
Jadeveon Clowney, the nation's No. 1 defensive player.
