The St. Johns Redskins won the last time they faced the Round Valley Elks, and things went their way on Saturday too. St. Johns enjoyed a cozy 50-34 victory over Round Valley. Given St. Johns' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while Round Valley is ranked 88th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ellie Heap was the offensive standout of the game as she scored 12 points along with five steals. She continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Josie Overson, who scored six points along with ten rebounds.
Despite the loss, Round Valley saw an underclassman step up: Harli Haws dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. The game was Haws' third in a row with at least ten points.
St. Johns' win bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Round Valley, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 9-5.
St. Johns will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Joseph City at 4:30 p.m. on December 9th. Hopefully Joseph City focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Friday. As for Round Valley, they will be playing at home against Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
