Baseball Recap: Sumter County Comes Up Short

Sumter County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 16-15 heartbreaker at the hands of the Monroe Golden Tornadoes. One positive for the Panthers, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Jordan Minter led a balanced group of hitters, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 1-for-4. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nolan Minter, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Sumter County's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Monroe, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sumter County will challenge Shaw at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Monroe, they will venture away from home to challenge Hardaway at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Monroe is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.4 runs per game this season.
