The 2011 Major League Baseball Draft was filled with players whose fathers made a lasting impression in the Major Leagues as well as in other professional sports.
Those drafted last year included Dante Bichette Jr. (son of Dante Bichette), Ryan Garvey (Steve Garvey), Ivan Dereck Rodriguez (Ivan Rodriguez), Trevor Gretzky (Wayne Gretzky) and Shawon Dunston Jr. (Shawon Dunston).
The 2012 school year will also have plenty of sons of former Major League Baseball players trying to make a name for themselves while also displaying some of the talent their fathers possessed during their playing careers.
Here's a look at a lineup of Major League Baseball sons.
P - Jose Mesa, Flanagan (Pembroke Pines, Fla.)He's been impressive so far this season for Flanagan, striking out 64 batters in 32 innings with a no-hitter among his four wins (4-0). He's the son of Jose Mesa, who had a 19-year career with eight teams, including seven with Cleveland in the mid-1990s.
P - Kacy Clemens, Memorial (Houston)He's off to a 4-0 start with Memorial after going 8-1 last year as a sophomore on the varsity team.

MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Baseball Rankings presented by the Army National Guard.
C - Dylan Brett, East (Shawnee Mission, Kan.)A four-year player for the Lancers, Brett also pitches when not catching, and he's a standout football player. Brett is the son of Kansas City Royals Hall of Famer George Brett.

A transfer from East Catholic, Buhner joins the defending 3A state champions in Mount Si. His father Jay is a softball coach at the school and is a former Major League star with the Mariners.
3B - Trey Williams, Valencia (Calif.)Son of former first-round draft pick Eddie Williams, Trey is considered one of the top power hitters in the country and should be one of the first high school players selected in the draft. He batted .345 with nine home runs as a junior.
SS - Brody Weiss, Regis Jesuit (Aurora, Colo.)A shortstop for the reigning state champion Raiders, Weiss is coached by his father Walt Weiss, a former infielder for the Oakland A's and Colorado Rockies. Brody went 2-for-4 with a triple in the Raiders' season opener.
OF - Tate Matheny, Westminster Christian (St. Louis)One of the top outfield prospects in the Class of 2012, Matheny is a two-time All-Metro selection by the St. Louis Post Dispatch. He is the son of former Major League catcher and current St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny.
OF - Trey Griffey, Dr. Phillips (Orlando, Fla.)

Had to bend the rules a little bit here since Griffey doesn't actually play baseball for Dr. Phillips this year, although he was a standout football player and he will play that sport at Arizona. Still, we have to think some major league team will gamble on drafting the son of one of the sport's greatest outfielders, Ken Griffey Jr.
OF - Cavan Biggio, St. Thomas Catholic (Houston, Texas)Okay, so we came up a little short on outfielders for this list, but Cavan's dad Craig Biggio switched from the infield to the outfield during his outstanding career with the Astros so we'll take a chance and convert Cavan from his third base spot to a corner position in the outfield. He's currently batting .533 for St. Thomas Catholic.
ReservesSS - Luke Dykstra, Westlake (Westlake Village, Calif.)
The sophomore son of former New York Met Lenny Dykstra is one of the top sophomores in the country.
SS - Dylan Manwaring, Horseheads (N.Y.)The son of former San Francisco Giants catcher Kurt Manwaring is also a standout pitcher for Horeseheads.
3B - Brantley Bell, Mountain Pointe (Phoenix)A solid infielder for the defending state champions, Bell is the son of former Diamondback Jay Bell.
SS - Rey Ordonez, Mater Academy Charter (Hialeah Gardens, Fla.)Son of the former New York Met shortstop of the same name.
