Basketball Recap: Winfield Piles Up the Points Against Hoover

Winfield won against Hoover last Monday with 55 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Tuesday. The Winfield Generals breezed by the Hoover Huskies to the tune of 55-28. Given the Generals' advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while the Huskies are ranked 85th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Winfield's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brooklyn Cole led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 13 rebounds. Those 13 rebounds gave Cole a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ashlee Johnson, who posted nine points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals.

Winfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hoover only pulled down four offensive boards.

Hoover's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Zoey Hall, who had six points and five rebounds, and Sadi Wehrle, who put up two points and four steals.

Winfield is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.5 points per game. As for Hoover, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Winfield is taking a road trip to take on Greenbrier East at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Winfield comes in on three and Greenbrier East on ten. As for Hoover, they will host Clay County at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
