MESA, Ariz. -
Mountain Pointe (Phoenix, Ariz.) snapped Mountain View (Mesa, Ariz.)'s 6-game winning streak, with a 51-6 victory on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Garette Craig in the first quarter, the Pride led 30-3 at the half.
Mountain Pointe expanded its lead to 38 points entering the fourth quarter. MP scored two times in the third, including once on a touchdown pass by
Antonio Hinojosa to
Jalen Brown.
Craig was the top performer for the Phoenix school. The senior running back ran for two touchdowns and caught one touchdown. He has now scored 18 touchdowns on the season.
The Toros' Luis Bustillos played well. The junior kicked two field goals.
The Pride entered the contest giving up 20.6 points per game this year. The defense really stepped up, holding Mountain View well below its season average of 34.9 points scored per game.
A 28-14 Mountain Pointe victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The defeat comes as a step back for Mountain View, which notched a 28-14 victory over Highland in its previous outing. With the win the Pride extended their winning streak to three games.
In a I Section III game next week Mountain View (6-3) takes on Mesa, and Mountain Pointe (8-1) will go up against Westwood also in a I Section III game.
