North Sanpete relied on the efforts of Maddox Madsen, who rushed for 25 yards and three touchdowns, and Ayden Akee, who rushed for 103 yards and one TD. That's the most rushing touchdowns Madsen has posted since back in August.
North Sanpete's run defense was locked in: Union could only muster 2.8 yards per carry. The team can thank Dalton Poulson for the heroic effort on defense: he. The dominant display was nothing new: North Sanpete has now limited their opponent to fewer and fewer yards per carry in three consecutive matchups.
North Sanpete's defense didn't let Gannon Labrum, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. In that department, Wyatt Hobush was the leader with three. He is becoming a predictor of North Sanpete's success: when he posts at least one sack the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't).
Meanwhile, Manti made easy work of Canyon View two weeks ago and carried off a 38-17 win. The result was nothing new for the Templars, who have now won five games by 21 points or more so far this season.
A big part of Manti's victory came down to the chemistry between Carter Mason and his top target Stone Mortensen. Mason threw for 435 yards and four TDs while completing 85.7% of his passes while Mortensen picked up 231 receiving yards and four scores. With that strong performance, Mortensen is now averaging an impressive 103.2 receiving yards per game. Isaac Crowther handled things on the ground, rushing for 98 yards.
Manti didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Mortensen.
North Sanpete's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Manti, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.
North Sanpete might still be hurting after the 35-14 loss they got from Manti in their previous matchup on October 3rd. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
